Our short film competition isn’t just a contest but a celebration of vision and passion, inviting filmmakers to dream big and audiences to be moved, challenged, and inspired. But more than merely offering a venue to display and generous applause, our short film competition also supports the creation of future films through generous cash prizes!
Four $2,500 Audience Choice Awards • One $1,500 Best Student Film Award
Prize amounts reflect the 2025 competition


We’re looking for live-action or animated short films up to 20 minutes, produced in 2023 or later. Films can be submitted into one or more of the following categories.
Live-action or animated narrative shorts. The film can reflect any subject.
Open to filmmakers (producer/writer/director) of any nationality, Canadian filmmakers included — the film can reflect any subject.
At least one filmmaker (producer/writer/director) must be Chinese or have Chinese heritage, and the film should be set in, related to, or reflective of life in China, or related to or reflective of Chinese culture in any location.
The film should be informative and can reflect any subject.
Open to filmmakers (producer/writer/director) of any nationality, Canadian filmmakers included — the documentary can reflect any subject.
At least one filmmaker (producer/writer/director) must be Chinese or have Chinese heritage, and the documentary should be set in, related to, or reflective of life in China, or related to or reflective of Chinese culture in any location.
For student filmmakers (producer/writer/director) of any nationality — the film can reflect any subject, and can be entered as either a narrative short or a documentary.
